April: What to do with children in Lisbon and Porto

April is here and with it an explosion of color, joy and, of course, lots of fantastic activities for our little explorers (and for the parents who love to accompany them!). Whether you live in Lisbon or Porto, get ready for an unforgettable month with our selection of events and activities for children in April .

The Magic of April in Lisbon

The capital dresses up for spring and offers a diverse range of options for all ages and tastes.

For the Curious and Creative Little Ones:

• Dive into the world of books!
  Lisbon Libraries are celebrating International Children's Book Day (April 2-5) with a special program. Get ready for enchanted tales, creative workshops and encounters with magical characters.
• Crafts with charm
  The Cascais Municipal Library – Casa da Horta da Quinta de Santa Clara is hosting the exhibition “The World of Children’s Literature: Meeting Literary Characters” until the end of the month. This is a unique opportunity for young children to marvel at rag dolls that come to life through stories.
• The Science Behind Magic
  The Science of Pixar exhibition, at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento (until September 14), continues to delight children and adults alike. Discover the secrets of animation and how science makes our favorite films even more special.
• Easter fun
  Easter in Vila Cascais (4th to 21st April, Parque da Quinta da Alagoa, Carcavelos) promises to be a lot of fun with themed activities for the whole family. And keep an eye out for the traditional Easter Egg Hunt at the Ajuda Botanical Garden (date to be confirmed)!
• Holidays with imagination
  Several venues offer Easter after-school activities (various dates in April), such as Dance Spot Campo Grande and Centro Ser Mais, with activities ranging from dance to sports. MAAT has also prepared Easter Workshops 2025 (April 7-17) to awaken the artistic and scientific side of the youngest.

For Show Lovers:

• Musicals that enchant
  Teatro Politeama continues to shine with Beauty and the Beast – The Musical (until June 1), a timeless classic for all ages. Academia de Santo Amaro presents the exciting Rapunzel – The Musical (until June 1) and Pocahontas – The Musical (until May 4).
• Theater to dream
  Boutique da Cultura brings to the stage The Pied Piper of Hamelin (March 30 to May 25), a classic story told in a fun way. Chapitô presents EGO (April 4 to 6), a show that combines several performing arts. And LU.CA - Teatro Luís de Camões invites you to explore your inner world with the dance performance Dentro da Cabeça (April 5 to 13).
• A classic on stage
  Don't miss Shrek: The Musical (April 5-26, Greater Lisbon), a hilarious adaptation of the famous animated film.

For Family Explore:

• Dive into the ocean
  The Submerged Universe , in Parque das Nações (until November 30), offers an immersive experience in the marine world.
• Brunch with laughter
  Lisboa Comedy Club organizes Brunch & Stand-Up Comedy for Children every Sunday in April, an original way to spend the morning with the family.
• Art for everyone
  The MAC/CCB Museum of Contemporary Art is promoting Visits-games-workshops for families (various dates in April), a fun way to discover contemporary art.

  Balleteatro presents Balletetarinho (April 5), a ballet show specially designed for the youngest. The Lavra Auditorium hosts Monstros das Emoções (April 5 and 6), a play about the world of feelings. Teatro Sá da Bandeira – Estúdio Latino brings to the stage Os Guardiões do Oceano (from May 7, but with dates in April), a marine adventure. And the Gaia Municipal Auditorium presents the musical Um Musical no Fundo do Mar (April 13). Sala Estúdio IG hosts O Grande Lago (April 5 and 6), a play for children.

To Unravel Mysteries and Learn:

• Journey to Ancient Egypt
  The immersive exhibition Mysterious Egypt continues at Alfândega do Porto until April 20, a fascinating experience for all ages.
• The magical world of Dalí
  The Dalí Cybernetics exhibition, also at Alfândega do Porto (until April 16), offers a technological perspective on the surrealist artist's work.
• Angry Birds under the sea!
  Starting April 5th, SEA LIFE Porto welcomes the Angry Birds on a mission to save the oceans. A fun way to learn about marine life and the importance of conservation.
• Books that come to life
  The Maia Municipal Library and the Porto City Museum have several Story Time sessions and activities that link reading to heritage.

For Creative and Fun Activities:

• Workshops for all tastes
  The Casa-Museu Marta Ortigão Sampaio organizes themed workshops on Saturdays. The Oficina Josefina has painting workshops for babies on Sundays. The FC PORTO MUSEUM offers themed workshops such as Dragon Godparents: Eggs and Magic – Workshop (April 13) and musical activities such as Music with Little Dragons – Recycling (several Sundays).
• Holidays with art and nature
  Serralves has prepared the Easter Holidays at Serralves 2025 (April 8-10) with several activities, culminating in the traditional Egg Hunt (April 13). The Quinta de Santiago Museum , in Matosinhos, also has Spring Workshops at the Museum (April 7-18) and the Children bring adults activity on Sundays.
• Family music
  Casa da Música invites you to DiSomNário (several Sundays in April), interactive musical activities for families.

For Family Explore:

• Marine world
  SEA LIFE Porto is always an excellent option for a family outing.
• Journey through discoveries
  The World of Discoveries Interactive Museum is a fun way to learn about the history of Portugal.
• Fascinating universe
  The Porto Planetarium takes us on a journey through the stars.
• Nature and animals
  Gaia Biological Park is ideal for a day outdoors.
• Relaxing walk
  The Crystal Palace Gardens offer a charming setting for a family picnic.
• From wine to chocolate
  WOW - World of Wine , in Vila Nova de Gaia, has several attractions, including the delicious The Chocolate Story .
